Sunday Stories: The Italian Story.

THE VILLAGE

Danny boy, decided that my summer has been to much work and not enough play, so he conspired  to kidnap me and run off to our friends summer house in the Tuscany.  To experience real italian life, Louise family brought the house 4 years ago in a little mountain village around 30 mins from Lucca.  Abandon for over 40 years, they have invited friends and family down to give the house a little love.  So the great summer migration from Copenhagen to Tuscany happends every year and the house becomes more and more lovely with each season passing.

We come we work a few hours, we each amazing food, and we enjoy the sunshine in the quirky little village of around 24 people.  Italian villages are like families everyone knows everyones business.  One sunny cloudless morning we were invited by Cache and Evelyne to join the villagers at Brunch.  We arrive at 10 o clock as invited, only to realize we were too early, and the rest of the village would be here in 20 mins.  At 10.15 the first glass of chilled white wine was served.  Danny and I laughed, thinking that this is the life.  A simple brunch of bread, meats, cheese, olives and of course bottles and bottles of unmarked wines. Everyone wanting to share their favorites with the strange blue eyed people of the north.  45 mins into the brunch we find out Evelyne 101 year old grandmother is ready to come up for brunch. As she is escorted by Evelyne and Cache is brings here homemade orange peel wine, which we joke is her secret to long life.

Danny and the white powder!

In Italy, things do not function on our nordic schedule.  Life is a series of  people working on their own schedules. After being in the villa for 2 days we young ones where sent to find gas for the oven

Sunday Story: Drama on the high seas!

" You and your best friend have a way of making small intimate drama into drama for everyone." said the boyfriend to me in a scorning tone, which did not need to scorn to hard since I knew he was right.

The joys of having a best friend that you love in that we are so close that now its open game to hurt each other.  Not out of malice or intent but simply because we close to live lifes so close to each other that its bound to get messy from time to time.  When I step back and I look at our friendship "family" its only makes sense that we are all up in each other business as any family would function.  No details to be shared, just the realization that we need to reeducate our expectations for each other, now that we are both in long term relationships.

Monday Music: Of Monster & Men

Back to Scandinavian music for Mondays, after a must needed stop to bristish new sensation, Daughter.

When most of think of the music scene in Iceland we think of very intense emotional music that comes from lonely souls in the middle of the cold Atlantic ocean, with great artists as Björk, Sigur Ros, and Jonsi solo project.  Recently the coup of kids in Iceland have been continuing to produce new and unique music that could only come from being isolated and living on an island with only 100.000 other people.

Of Monster and Men, are one of the new sounds coming of the island and making their way through Scandinavia.  A little more upbeat with wonderful harmonies, perfect for a bicycle ride home.  They are one of my Summer favorites.  Plus they have a great name.

Love it?

Weekend Stories & Photos

House Warming: For at fejre indflytning i lejlighed

Housewarmings are as always an Epic way to begin a weekend, Sarah & Pam held their house warming/moving out party since they recently found out that they were going to have to be out in 3 months. This just make the celebrations more interesting. The party was a funny mix, Pam being American and self-proclaimed band nerd, I would agree Hot band nerd.  Sarah is a well known recording artist who works between Hollywood and Copenhagen. The mix of people was so fun, and everyone seem to have a good time.  Its funny how musicians & producers are so similar in looks and personality.  I had moments where I simply thought this is just like in Chicago, with the Cassette Guys.  People talked, People danced, Burhan G made a guest appearance(Danish Popstar) and we all had a good laugh.  Well done. Pam & Sarah you too are sweet-hearts.

Friday: May 28th Watches

I have never been one to have too many accessories.  I  some how think its one of my things. I do not really wear bracelets, watches, earrings etc. Then last year I received a watch as a gift from friends returning from Thailand holidays, I wore it for 2 months and love every moment of it, and almost on time one day in September it broke, as every good fraud watch from Thailand should.  Never the less, I have become a watch person with out a watch since. And one day I might get my act together and buy a watch again. And if I did it would be from May 28th.  Their collection of simple and pretty watches is outstanding, and at a decent price. So Jubii to them.

Shop: May 28th
Price: 232Dkk. or 39USD

Wednesday: Inspiration Love & Music

My favorite Photographer: Robert Doisneau  A pioneers of photojournalism. He is renowned for his 1950 image Le baiser de l'hôtel de ville (Kiss by the Town Hall).  Kissing in public spaces, the best and worst thing in the world, Like most things in this world we love it when its us, and we hate it cause it reminds us of what we do or can not have.  I love street photography. Moments that captured and might not ever be found again.

Music Mondays: DAUGHTER "YOUTH"

I tend to focus my Music Mondays on music from the Nordic lands, but today I must place a British Band that I can not stop listening too. Daughter: The Wild Youth.

Soft & Honest Heartbreak. This album captures the hopelessness of the broken hearts of our 20s, and the longing to understand the emptiness that follows us after the roller-coaster.  Youth, is the epic center of the album in my opinion. Give it a listen and check out more of their EP.
Shadows settle on the place, that you left.
Our minds are troubled by the emptiness.
Destroy the middle, it's a waste of time.
From the perfect start to the finish line.

And if you're still breathing, you're the lucky ones.
'Cause most of us are heaving through corrupted lungs.
Setting fire to our insides for fun
Collecting names of the lovers that went wrong
The lovers that went wrong.

We are the reckless,
We are the wild youth
Chasing visions of our futures
One day we'll reveal the truth
That one will die before he gets there.
And if you're still bleeding, you're the lucky ones.
'Cause most of our feelings, they are dead and they are gone.
We're setting fire to our insides for fun.
Collecting pictures from the flood that wrecked our home,
It was a flood that wrecked this...

... and you caused it...
... and you caused it...
... and you caused it...

Well I've lost it all, I'm just a silouhette,
A lifeless face that you'll soon forget,
My eyes ae damp from the words you left,
Ringing in my head, when you broke my chest.
Ringing in my head, when you broke my chest.

And if you're in love, then you are the lucky one,
'Cause most of us are bitter over someone.
Setting fire to our insides for fun,
To distract our hearts from ever missing them.
But I'm forever missing him.
